Sustainable Paper Labels

Help protect forests by using sustainably sourced papers.

Paper is a great choice for plastic-free labels, but it's important to ensure that paper is sourced from well managed forests.

How are Paper Labels sustainable?

Well-managed Forests

The vast majority of the paper materials we purchase have certifications for being sustainably sourced.

Recyclable Materials

Paper is a recyclable material, and when paper labels are applied to other paper items they're typically recyclable.

Reducing use of plastics

Switch to sustainably sourced paper labels to reduce the use of plastic labels and ensure habitats remain protected.

Are Sustainable Papers the option for me?

Using paper is a great alternative to materials such as plastic for a wide variety of applications. But as more people switch to paper, it's important to ensure that the use of paper doesn't threaten forests or habitats.

We always try to source paper materials that are part of management and sourcing schemes. Examples of forest management schemes include the FSC and PEFC. Materials certified under schemes like these (e.g. FSC Mix) must use resources that are sustainably farmed and managed, while also protecting local environments, communities and economies.

If you're already using paper labels, then ensuring that you're using a material which has been sustainably sourced is a simple way to ensure that you're protecting the environment and prioritising sustainability.

Sometimes it can take a while to assess other newer or more innovative sustainable label materials options, so selecting a sustainable paper can be a great temporary solution for your labels.

Paper Labels and Recyclability

Sustainability is more than a material choice

Materials are a key part of any sustainable label, but there's a lot more to consider when ensuring that your labels are as sustainable as possible.

From production processes, tooling and print plates, to delivery options and label durability, there's a wide range of considerations. You'll likely need to compromise on some goals, or be willing to make a trade-off.

We want to ensure that your labels really are as sustainable as possible in all aspects, and are always working to expand our range of initiatives.

No waste sent to landfill

We don't send any waste to landfill. Instead it's collected and scent for processing at an energy recovery facility to help provide heat and power for homes in Sheffield, Yorkshire.

Paper packing and less plastic

Our phase-out of polystyrene void filler was completed last year, replaced with paper. We're also taking steps to reduce plastic, and you can request a plastic-free delivery for your order.

Ink cartridge recycling

All of the industrial ink cartridges used in our Epson Digital Press are returned to Epson for recycling. This helps to reduce waste, and contributes to efforts to build a circular economy.
